18 Foot tall “MEGA Beam” to Debut at CES 2015

Palo Alto, California - (Jan 06, 2015)

This year at CES 2015, Suitable Technologies is debuting one of the biggest products at the show: the “MEGA Beam!” MEGA Beam is an 18-foot tall working replica of the company’s Beam+ product: a Smart Presence technology that combines mobility and video conferencing for users to move about, speak, see and interact with friends and family - regardless of their location. The booth is staffed entirely by machines, with people from around the world “beaming in” to interact with attendees and guests alike. The Suitable Technologies booth (#30869) provides attendees a refreshing experience away from the shoulder-bumping, toe-trampling madness of CES – visitors will have an opportunity to beam into museums around the world including:

The Detroit Institute of Arts (www.dia.org), beam in to experience Diego Rivera’s fresco style mural titled Detroit Industry, considered the finest example of Mexican mural art in the United States, and the artist thought it the best work of his career.

The Computer History Museum (www.computerhistory.org), beam in to explore the history of computing and its ongoing impact on society. The Computer History Museum is dedicated to the preservation and celebration of computer history and is home to the largest international collection of computing artifacts in the world.

The Seattle Art Museum (www.seattleartmuseum.org) has been the center for world-class visual arts in the Pacific Northwest since 1933. Beam into the Northwest Coast Gallery to view paintings, sculpture and works on paper from artists of the Pacific Northwest.

The Suitable Technology Beam Presence System (SPS) embodies the user with an authentic presence and immerses the user with reliable low-latency audio and video for natural communication and control. Beam can be used by anyone, anywhere, as long as there is a Wi-Fi connection. A video of how BeamPro is used by a Medical Device Manufacturer can be viewed here: https://www.14dd5266c70789bdc806364df4586335-gdprlock/watch?v=Ey_4IH-YbrQ/

In addition, the Beam will be on stage for the opening session of the Lifelong Tech Summit on January 6 at 9:00 a.m. PT, when Kavita Krishnaswamy beams in to participate in a high-profile panel. The panel will discuss assistive technologies such as Beams and robots. Kavita has spinal muscular atrophy and has been beaming into conferences and events – most recently having used the technology to beam in to present her thesis at University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

The CES booth follows the grand opening of the first commercial Beam store in Palo Alto, CA, which is run entirely by remote staff sitting as far away as New York City and Sydney. The store provides a fun way to experience the Beam Smart Presence System first-hand. It extends the Smart Presence experience to anyone visiting Palo Alto by engaging the community, and simultaneously connects them to long-distance family and friends via Beam.
